St Barths Bucket Ragatta

The Salperton crest looking amazing on the junica sail with the sun shining directly behind it, beautiful.

Andy Green our driver handling the perfectly

What an amazing experience,

What a whirlwind trip, I was back in Orlando Thursday evening at home with my family by 10.30pm. Getting back in the MasterCraft tomorrow morning will seem a little strange I feel.

Super Yacht Racing in St Barths

Well not how I usually spend my time on the waters of the world, but when invited to join Barry Houghton owner of Salperton 4 a 47 meter super Yacht and his professional crew and former Americas Cup crew Andy Green our driver, Cameron Appleton our tactition and Charlie our skipper to name but a few. This was going to be an amazing oportunity to join and be involved in a completly different professional arena and learn from some of the best in the business.

Salperton
47 meter long super racing yacht

We left the dock and joined the boat at 9.30am and following a briefing, checks and sail preporation and wooling we were on our way under sail by 1.00pm. I have to say I was blown away by the scale of engineering and equipmenon on the boat and the level of team work and skill needed to sail a boat of this size. At 250 tons Salperton is big, but amazingly nimble and fast to manouver with this very capable crew. The first day of practice was all about testing to equipment and loads on the sails, the rigging and the boat. Following tests we would then go through many of the manuvours used in tactical racing, jibes, tacking etc and of course switching between the different sails used in Racing, the reach, the blade and the larger kite sail the junica all of which are on the bow side of the mast and create that all important power and speed in sail racing!

With 6 full time crew, 25 professional sailers and 5 guests onboard, this huge boat got surprisingly hectic at times.
Especially when it was all hands on deck, to help with the bringing in of the 1550 square meter junica kite sail!

39 boats will take part in this years 3 day race, a minimum length of 100' is required to enter the Bucket Race Regata.

Logan's mission to learn the one handed gate

Logan Haughn from Travers City Michigan has spent the week learning the one handed gate. Logan when skiing most days in the summer can get into the 35off line, but was struggling to get there consistently. Along with standing on his ski more nutrual toward the tip of the ski following it rather than the boat on his onside lean and working with the one handed gate, Logan is finding it easy to hold position and direction in the course. He set for a great season in the course this summer! Looking forward to having you back here in May Logan, great sking this week.

Video Coaching

Logan Haughn gets to watch the things he is working on on the new flat screen lakeside at Jodi's training site. Getting see what you are actually doing on the water can throw a whole new light on things and help you to really make a break through with your skiing.

Special but unexpected moments in life

There are a few times in life when you are blown away by someones totally unexpected generosity, this came if the form of an amazing flat screen TV given as a gift to me and my family by the The Marshall family from New Hampshire. They came to ski with me for a week and all did such an amazing job whilst here. Both Bob and Martha skied twice a day fantastically and both Eric and Evan, their two boys, learned to run the slalom course with both gates and letting go with one arm. They all skied out of their skins and are ready for a great season on the water as a very close skiing family.

Once again, a special thanks to the Marshall's for the amazing gift, we are blessed to have met your family and we hope to build a very long friendship over time.
